In
the current era of globalization, sophistication and technological progress are
developing very quickly, we cannot deny this. The rapid development of
technology has a huge impact on social media which is loved by the wider
community. Social media is an efficient choice for its users to communicate
remotely. The development of social media is very diverse, starting from social
media which only functions to send short messages, then social media appears
that is able to send pictures, communication via devices but can still do
face-to-face, and even more sophisticated there is Instagram which is now a
medium for users to communicate. share activities.
There
are so many good benefits that can be obtained from social media, along with
the impact that is felt for its users, namely, we can add friends, establish
friendship with distant family, and through social media the community can also
open up business opportunities. We can see this by the proliferation of online
shops that we meet on social media today.
The
relationship between social media users or between sellers and buyers can be
established by communicating between social media users. Language becomes a
tool as a connector between users. Language can have a good impact if it is
structured and contains good things. But it will be a bad thing if the language
used in social media contains negative things.
The
Indonesian language used by social media users usually very rarely uses good
and correct language. Because the most important thing for them in the social
world is how their language can be understood by their interlocutors on social
media or what they want to convey to the audience can be conveyed properly.
Therefore, the language of social media uses more good language, and is elastic
and dynamic. Not infrequently the Indonesian language used is not a standard
language, but Indonesian mixed with regional languages as well as foreign
languages such as English or slang.
Why
does Indonesian on social media not follow the applicable Indonesian language
rules? This is because the language used in social media serves as a tool or
medium for communicating. And social media is not considered a formal space or
situation. So if the language used on social media is considered good, polite
and courteous, then the language is deemed appropriate to use as long as the
language can be understood.
As
has been written in Law number 24 of 2009 Indonesian language must be used on
social media but it is not explained in detail what Indonesian language is
required, whether Indonesian is good and correct, or good Indonesian is enough.
Because in Law number 24 of 2009 Article 39 paragraph 1-2 it is also explained
that the mass media can use regional languages or foreign languages that have
special goals or special targets. So what is the relationship between mass
media and social media? Mass media is one of the social media that is given to
a wide audience to provide the widest possible information. Therefore, mass
media is the same as social media. because the goal is the same, namely to
provide the widest possible information to the public in terms of
communication.
The
disease experienced by Indonesian people in social media is that many social
media users are happier and more familiar with foreign languages than
Indonesian. For example, I prefer to mention cellphones rather than 'devices'.
Prefers to say online rather than 'on the net' and there are many more
vocabularies whose foreign languages are better known than Indonesian. Why so?
This happened not because they did not love Indonesia, but it happened because
of the slow socialization of language development to the community. The
community first knows the vocabulary of a foreign language to mention an object
or activity that they are doing, after that there will be counseling development
in Indonesian. It is very difficult to change ingrained habits but it can be
done slowly. But it takes a long time, and requires consistency from the
government in outreach and introduction.
And
the development of the Indonesian language that comes from the slang language
or slang of millennial children also cannot be dammed or detained. Millennials
who are creative and innovative often create new vocabulary and use social
media as a platform to spread the language. This proves that social media in
language development in Indonesia has a very large role.
The
most important thing about language in social media is not standard grammar or
language according to rules but how the language is able to convey the intent
and purpose of its users. And social media is not a formal forum so it is not
required to use good and correct Indonesian. As long as the language is good,
the language can be used. And in the use of language, we must also look at the
target of our language, if the purpose of our language on social media is for
formal matters such as speaking to leaders, or sending electric messages for
formal matters, then the language used must be formal, namely good and correct
Indonesian, and must be efficient, not wasteful in using vocabulary.
